Sheriff’s Office receives $275,000 COPS Grant

On June 2nd, 2020, the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office was notified that they had received a much-needed personnel grant that will add $275,000 to the department to pay the salaries and benefits for two new patrol deputies for three years.

Sheriff and rare ‘Thompson Gun’ featured in upcoming documentary

Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane with the Thompson Submachine Gun aka Tommy Gun was made in 1921 and issued to Sequoyah County Sheriff Bill Byrd on June 29, 1933. Lane and the gun will be featured in an upcoming documentary about the legendary sheriff of Cherokee County Grover Bishop.
